New York

I couldn’t help but notice how fly Ashanti and Eve looked on Common’s arms at the Hennessy Artistry Tour Thursday night at Terminal 5 in New York. I just had to post this up.

Get em girls!

Whew! What a day. It’s been raining all morning and afternoon for a somber night. I actually like the rain when I know it’s not ruining my plans. I slept from 4 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and boy did it feel great!

I also managed to get a lot done today. I got my rent handled, persuaded my mother to finally give in to buying furniture with me, and finally received my grant from my school. :)

It was a very successful day if you ask me. What’s next on the list you ask?

Well I still have to:

  • Move in
  • Find a work-study job
  • Figure out my roster problems
  • Map out my daily schedules for the semester

I’ve been procrastinating for a good portion of the summer so now that 2/3rd’s of it is over, it’s time to really get on my grind. :-/

Listen as Remy Ma discusses how male groupies get no love and basically get treated like trash.

Now that’s some crazy *$#!

Clearly women speak more openly on how they feel about certain situations so let’s also imagine that a dude said this and please DON’T BECOME A GROUPIE WHORE!!! lol. Groupies get nowhere. When was the last time you heard that a rapper or singer married one of their groupies? … Can’t think of anything? Because it doesn’t happen!

“Yo fun comes once in a blue moon!,” said my cousin Sophia as we sat at the dining room table bored out of our minds on a beautiful summer afternoon.

It’s as if this summer is just deemed to be a disaster for me one way or another. While I was in Philly I was insanely bored and now that I’m back home in New York it’s just the same. Minimum freedom and little to no partying= an angry, bored VaLu. lol

So far all the ladies and I have been doing is going to bar-b-que’s and that’s really not helping my figure to tell you the truth. :-P

Also my cousin Sophia is currently staying with us and could quite possibly be the only reason why my summer is the least bit entertaining. But is also only 18 and my parents treat her like she’s a baby so therefore could also be the reason why I’m not going out as much. :-D …you know I love you.

I’m starting to wonder if I should just take her and flee to Philly for a change of scenery. hmm… That’s a thought.

But on another note, my peoples put me on to the rapper/artist Nicki Minaj so at least that helps to pass some time. Music always helps a little.

For the most part I like her, I just dont really like how she recycles a lot of her own material. A couple songs kind of sound the same, and she switches from being hood, Caribbean, British, and valley like it’s nothing. It gets a little confusing sometimes but I guess that’s just her image.

Okay everyone, now I have had way too many people ask me to tell them this story, and after too many times of re-telling, it Brittanee reminded me that I had a blog and that I should just write it down! Thanks Britt. lol.

I don’t really know where to start but here goes… so everyone already knows that I had a best friend or “wifey” as I called her since high school. We were really close and pretty much went everywhere together. Anyway, on with the story. So this girl I’ll call her…”Girl” for the purpose of anonymity.

So she calls me up on Thursday morning asking if I wanted to go out to Club Vesta (which is in the city) with her later that night since we had not gone clubbing together since we got home for winer break.  But since I also know how expensive city parties are I asked her how much it was, and she said that it would be $5 before 11:30. Okay great I said, but also let her know that we definitely had to get there before then because I wasn’t trying to pay $20 for a party. She agreed and said that her boyfriend would be driving so we didn’t have to take the train, but to have at least $11 on us(my sister and I) so that we could help pay for tolls and parking. Okay BET!, all plans are made. Later on around 8 I start figuring out what I was planning on wearing and got dressed so that she could pick my sister and I up by 9:30.

So she comes to get us and of course my sister is not ready. 15 minutes later she finally decides to come down stairs. We get in the car and drive off to then remember that my sister and I definitely needed to go to the ATM.  So “Girl” drops us back home and we get in Lissa(my sister)’s car to go to 7-11 and withdraw money (because their ATM’s don’t charge extra :-0.. shocking I know).
So we took our sweet time because we knew she wasn’t dressed yet, got something to eat, sat in the car, ate it, chilled, and then went over to her house at the same time her boyfriend was showing up.

If we knew what awaited us that night we would have turned around and went back home, but of course we cannot predict the future so we proceeded to enter the house.

When we got inside after the ample time we gave “Girl” to get dressed, we expected her to be about done, but of course she still only had on her tights and dress. With her hair undone, makeup not on, and shoes not chosen we anxiously rushed her since it was already 10:45 and we were supposed to leave the latest 10:15.

So after she finally got everything together and we left the house her boyfriend sped to the city and we arrived at exactly 11:31. After about 10 minutes of driving around the city trying to find the club, we finally found it and at a red light she told us to get out and go stand on the line while they drove to a hotel where his uncle was staying at to get the key (he was supposed to sleep there that night).  A little baffled, my sister and I rushed to get out of the car before the light turned green leaving behind my purse which held my house keys, all my non-needed items for a club, and my sisters car keys.  When we got to the sidewalk and they drove off we were a little upset about the fact that they would just drop us off at a red light instead of pulling to the side but didn’t really think much of it.

After we found the club, which unbenounced to us was right across the street, we got in the line and hoped that the price was at least 10 dollars since it was only 11:45.  After 10 minutes standing on a never moving line, one of the bouncers announced that the new price was $20 for ladies and $25 for men.  I was so pissed because I was definitely not trying to spend that much on a party. [Like, we are in a recession and my job refuses to give me hours, I am NOT about to just throw away a $20 on a party that was going to just be my sister and I after this girl bugged me about going out with her.]  So I called her up and told her the new price and that I wasn’t trying to pay that.  She said “oh wow do you want us to pick you guys up?” I said yeah because were not going in and it’s freezing!(it was definitely 15 degrees and below that night-no exaggeration!)  So she then said “well I don’t wanna waste gas and have him drive all the way to get you guys and then have to come back here. We might as well just get the key and then come get y’all”.  And yeah I understood that logic so I agreed and told her to go ahead and do that. But because it was so cold and my sister and I were wearing heels, we decided that we needed to find somewhere warm to go and quick. So I peeped a McDonald’s down the street and we started walking towards there when we saw that Penn Station was right down the street so we went there instead.  We decided that it would take like 30 minutes max before they came to get us.

Sitting in the waiting room surrounded my funky people and hobos, both talking on the phone, my sister and I grew a little restless since it was already 12:50 and neither of us received a phone call or update as to when we were getting picked up. So I decided to call her and find out what was going on.  I called her and the phone went to voice mail, a little angry, I called back but again the call went to voice mail. So then I got really pissed and just blew up her phone calling like 20 times before she finally picked up.  By that time I was really heated, not because we hadn’t been picked up yet, but because she never called to see if we were okay or just to see if we found somewhere warm to wait.  So i asked her where she was and she said she was still at the hotel. I asked, “Do you even know where we are?” she said “No where are you”, and I screamed “EXACTLY! You don’t know and you don’t even care! You never bothered to call to see if we were okay or if we found somewhere warm to go.” and she said “I knew you guys would find somewhere warm to go.” Like honestly, what the hell is that? Your best friend doesn’t even care where you are, leaving you to wander the damn streets knowing full well that she’s your ride but never decides to even call you for a whole hour? She even had the nerve to say “Honestly, I don’t feel like having this argument right now, I have a migraine.”

But anyway, before we hung up she said that they would be coming to get us soon.  A little frustrated, I told my sister the conversation and we continued to wait. 1 o’clock came, 1:30 passed, 2 o’clock came, and my sister just got really livid and decided to find out what was going on. So she called “Girl” and once again she had to blow up her phone before she finally picked up. After she got off the phone she told me that “Girl” told her that she was laying down in the hotel because she had a migraine and that her boyfriend was talking with his uncle discussing what we could do in the city since they didn’t want to waste money after coming all the way out here by just going back home. After hearing this my sister got so angry she just started screaming. “So you mean to tell me that you two are in a warm hotel and you’re laying down while Valu and I are over here in the cold just waiting? Don’t you think I would like to be in a warm hotel too? Honestly, just tell your boyfriend to drive over here, bring Valu her fuckin shit, bring me my fuckin keys, so we can take the fuckin train home because I don’t have time for this bullshit!”
…and “Girl” hung up on her.

Pissed off, we decided that anyone who could do this to us cannot truly be a friend, because I could never imagine myself leaving a friend anywhere if the plan was to hang out together, especially some place that they don’t even know like that just so that I could lay up in a bed and “sleep”.

A little while after 2:15 her boyfriend called me from her phone (which was the biggest sign of immaturity to me) and informed me that he was on his way to come get us.  We told him that we were at 34th and 7th(Penn Station) and to call us when he got outside.  Mind you, we found out that the hotel was a couple blocks away and not a 30 minute ride (since that’s how long it took him to finally get to Penn Station). When he finally got there he was up the block and we had to walk up the street to get to the car. (Which I’m pretty sure was her doing. With a whole empty street full of parking he had to park all the way by the hotel up the street instead of right near the doorway? Let’s be real!)

We finally walk and get in the car and she wanna keep the “migraine” story up. Mind you, she didn’t even LOOK at us when we got in the car and just continued to lean her head to the side as if she was sleeping (at this point I’m wondering how the hell I could have ever been friends with someone so selfish). She didn’t even bother to mutter a “hi” or even try to turn around and explain what happened or even apologize to us(because anybody in their right mind would do that after abandoning a friend for 2 hours). Nope, she pretended as if nothing happened and at that point I promised myself that as soon as I got out of that car I would never speak to her again.

So we’re driving and my sister gets really cold. She started shivering and chattering her teeth so much that “Girl”’s boyfriend asked if she wanted him to turn the heat on for her and she said yes.  2 minutes did not even pass by before “Girl” clicked the heat completely off and rolled the window down.  Knowing my sister, I had to calm her down early or we would have really had a problem.  I then had to give my sister a pair of my socks because I was so worried about her. Not only was this childish but it was stupid because she’s the one that anybody should be having attitude with. But in any situation she always wants to believe that she’s the victim so of course she had to act like one.

But I digress, we drove on and without a good GPS system her boyfriend ended up taking the Lincoln Tunnel and had us heading towards New Jersey.  We informed him (without an attitude!) that he was taking the wrong tunnel. But you can’t exactly turn around in a tunnel so after we got out, he turned around and was forced to pay the toll. We got back in the city and somehow ended up taking the Lincoln Tunnel AGAIN (but it wasn’t his fault because he’s not used to driving in NYC).

So just because of the level of frustration that we had and the anxiousness to get home and out of that car, my sister and I just burst out laughing (we had the option of either screaming or laughing and frankly I think we made the right choice.) So then the girl wanna turn around and say “Don’t make fun of him he’s doing the best he can.” At that point my sister went absolutely crazy, screaming all sorts of obscenities about the fact that she lost all rights to divert her attention to her and that she needs to turn around and go back to sleep “or whatever the hell it is you were doing over there.” So after their spat was over and her boyfriend got the right directions to the Mid-Town Tunnel from the toll woman, we were finally on our way home.

But of course we couldn’t go home without a little more drama right? Nope! On our way home, he’s speeding like a maniac and all I’m thinking is that only thing we need to make this night a liiittle bit better is if we got into a major car accident. But anyway, we’re in the car and the music is blasting and my sister starts singing a song, and of course “Girl” has to change the station, so she brushes it off and starts singing another one, and of course “Girl” has to turn the volume all the way down. But whatever right? If she wants to be a bitch she can be that. So a while passes and my sister just starts humming the song on the radio and “Girl” just shuts off the radio completely. How pathetic! Oh but it’s not because she’s being selfish! Oh no! It’s because she had a migraine guys! *rolls eyes*

So we FINALLY get close to home and she decides that she’s healthy enough to turn the radio back on and to sit up and have a full phone conversation with somebody, completely bashing someone whose supposed to be her friend, straight gossiping. And then gets off the phone to blast the radio as if she wasn’t supposed to have a “migraine”. So we finally pull up in front of her house (because remember that’s where my sister parked) and I get out and just told her boyfriend to have a good night. But my sister of course had to get out and completely curse her out for being a selfish bitch that never thinks about anyone else but herself. Then continued to tell her boyfriend that if he doesn’t be careful she’ll break his heart because that’s all she ever does, then before slamming the car door she warns her that if she ever steps one foot in our house ever again that she’ll “fuck her up and THEN kick her out.”

So there, that’s the long winded story. I’m just mad it took me so long to realize how selfish of person she was even though everyone had been telling me to watch out for her for years. But no, I stuck up for her and stayed by her side because that’s what a good friend does right? Yeah well, regardless, I refuse to allow something like that affect my other friendships and my trust towards people, so although our friendship is over, I’m not going to let it make me bitter. :-P      So take my poll && comment with what you think.

(P.S. you don’t have to have an account to leave a comment, let me know what you think.)

Okay so after all of my plans basically got completely rearranged I found myself getting dressed to go out with my girls. First, we went to the BBQ in Elmont that was hosted by Xplicit, Different World, and Rated R, which was actually pretty good. The food was on point or so I heard because I didn’t even eat. lol. They kind of played us in the liquor department with their baby bottles but that’s alright, everyone got their little hustle. lol. However, the music was good and the atmosphere was right but they shocked me when I heard that it was supposed to end at 12 o’clock. That’s extra early but I guess people are getting so used to BBQ’s getting shut down prematurely that they just decide to end them early themselves. Good idea!! lol.

But naturally, at 12 o’clock the BBQ was still going strong with more and more people showing up by the minute. Although this was great and all, we were also trying to hit up Club Dhaka in Brooklyn before it got too expensive so we left the BBQ at around 12:20 a.m. and went to a friend’s house to quickly get changed. After getting dressed, at around 1 a.m. we swung by the BBQ again to pick up my friends boyfriend to then realize that the BBQ was still going. I knew that 12 a.m. was too early to be true. Lol. Either way, we were still on our way to Club Dhaka. Too bad on our way there we found out it had already been shut down. We’re really going to have to stop messing with clubs in Brooklyn because they always seem to get shut down before we ever get there. lol.

Anyway, there was talk about going to Club DeRiver but instead we ended up at Club 360. Now I’ve never been to this club before so I didn’t know what to expect, all I knew was that there was a lot of people standing outside but only about five people actually standing on the line. This was not a good sign. However, we figured it was too late to actually try to find another club and a party is really what YOU make of it, so I put my positive attitude on and we walked to the club. But THEN after we got past the RUDE ASS bouncer that kept pushing us around, we get to the fact that the club was $25 to get in! Let’s just say none of us were all too happy about this. After hearing the bouncer scream at us REPEATEDLY because one of my friends was protesting the price, we all just threw our money on the table and walked in. I’m pretty sure they didn’t get $25 from each of us but that’s their problem not ours. Hahaha. [NOT MY PROBLEM!!-inside joke]

So we walk into the club and with amazement realized how small it was, just when I was about to freak out and demand my money back my sister showed us the REST of the club. hahaha. And oh my goodness was it hot as hell on the dance floor!! When I say hot as hell, I do not exaggerate. Given just how hot it was outside [we’re having a heat wave at the moment] one would have figured they would leave a door open or something. Just due to the heat the dance area was funky as hell!, why people don’t bathe before going to a party is beyond me but I digress. It was so hot in there that people were just dripping wet, even the ceiling was dripping, and everyone was running in and out of the bathrooms trying to dry themselves off. [Sounds like every Philly party to me. lol!] But at least they had a couple of ceiling fans and the area by the bar was really cool. Surprisingly we danced A LOT, the drinks at the bar were pretty good, and since DJ Anga-Manage-Mint was in the building the music was definitely on point. :) And I’m guessing it was supposed to be some kind of lingerie party because the females were borderline naked in lingerie and dudes was walking around in pajama pants. lol. We took a few pictures thanks to PartyReplay.com so if we’re Facebook friends you can go check that out also. :) Overall, we had a pretty good time and I would do it all over again. The party ended at around 3:30 a.m. and we got home around 4:30 a.m. after my friend dropped us all off. It was a pretty successful night. :)

This Saturday night I sat at my computer contently chatting away with some friends, when one of my best friends asked if I would accompany her to a couple bbq’s. So naturally I hopped up in excitement to leave this got-damned house, went upstairs and informed my sister. We got dressed and headed out. First we hit up the “block party” in Uniondale which was really nothing but someones house BBQ with big ass speakers in the middle of the street. Why they had to block off the whole street for that… I don’t know. [smh].

After a little bit, we hit up the Letz Get It BBQ in Hempstead which was okay. The music was nice, and the food was up to par. :-P We got our hot dogs, hamburgers, and griot, chilled for a bit but then dipped, because the girls I was with claimed that it was “dead”, which was only natural since we got there insanely early at like 11:30 p.m.

So after an hour went by of us driving around aimlessly, getting gas, parking in 3 different locations attempting to find a destination, by around 12:30 we decided to hit up the Grammy Family 2nd Annual BBQ in Brooklyn. So after we got the directions and started heading towards there we found out that it got shut down already. Of course it did! I wonder if its just me but it really seems like every BBQ in Queens or Brooklyn all get shut down before we even get there or before it even gets poppin. So, trying to save the night we decided to just go to the after party and hit that up. But of course since we’re from Long Island and never go to Brooklyn [cuz it's so damn far], we got lost. After we found our way to Club Djumbala [thanks to mapquest!]where the after party was supposed to be, we rolled up to find it insanely crowded! There were so many people on the line you would swear it was an after party to a parade, and I’m not even exaggerating! So after driving 3 blocks down and 3 blocks over and not finding one parking spot we decided we would just try to go to Club IFE instead.

After getting lost once again and finding our way at Club IFE it was already 2:15 a.m. and one of our friends decided that it was her bedtime and didn’t want to pay $15 to get in the club, instead she wanted to stay inside the car and sleep. Now you already know we were not going to leave a girl sitting in a car all by herself in Brooklyn on a suspect ass street so she could get raped and shot [hahahah inside joke!]. So unnervingly we got back in the car and drove back home. *sigh* All of that work for nothing!

And all this had to happen because the girls didn’t want to stay at the Letz Get It BBQ. So instead of just kicking back and relaxing at a BBQ that was close to home, had people there that we knew, and that I heard was actually pretty good, we drove around and wasted gas for about 3 hours. Some night! grr! But at least we got a couple of laughs in. :D

“The Beach Wear Affair HOSTED BY:RICKY BLAZE”

Club Tobago Queens, N.Y.

First of all, the fact that this party was $15 in advance was a ripoff. And to think that some people actually paid $20 at the door is unbelievable! It was clearly a Guyanese club which I had no problem with, and the music wasn’t too bad if you LOVE reggae. I just so happen to be a big fan of it so my crew and I did not mind. Although there was an insane amount of dj’s on the flyer I can promise you that half of them did not show up and even if they did, who needs six different dj crews at one club anyway?

The only reason my crew and I even CONTEMPLATED going to this place was because of the promise of Ricky Blaze being in the building. Not even was he not there, but they never even  played any of his songs. The way the club was set up it was as if everyone was supposed to sit down and listen to music all night. Needless to say, I was not impressed. The dance floor did not get packed until around 1:45 a.m. and my crew did not bless it until 2 a.m. This club was officially a bust. The only time the music actually got people hype enough was when the Reservoir Dawgs started DJ’ing. The whole flyer was straight up false advertisement.

1. Nobody was dressed in beach wear

2. There was no wet t-shirt contest (I didn’t complain about that one)

3. Ricky Blaze never showed up, and

4. Half of the DJ’s did not show up.

In the end my friends and I made it a point to approach the people that threw this party to let them know how disappointed we were. Although they did NOT give us our money back because “they weren’t in charge” and “couldn’t find” the guy who actually was, we made a couple of friends and left laughing. Too bad the first two out of three hours spent there could have been spent with me laying in bed watching t.v. and on my PSP.

Lets just say that my crew will not be returning to Club Tobago any time soon. Some places are just meant to be avoided.

Hello everyone,,

This is my first post so bear with me as I get myself settled. My plan for this blog is to inform others about the clubs and events that I attend in NY and my experiences. It seems like this summer I will be going out ALOT so why not give some feedback right? I surprisingly get a lot of questions from my friends about specific clubs, how they went, and if they should go so I figured I would just make a blog and save myself and them some time. Anyway I’ll be updating as soon as I get out which should be by tomorrow. So stay tuned and let me know what you think. :-P
